15Nov2001 GERMANY: Merck signs nanomaterials deal with Ireland's NTera.

FRANKFURT, Nov 15 (Reuters) - German drug and specialty chemicals group maker Merck KGaA said on Thursday it had signed two agreements with Ireland's NTera to develop and retail nanomaterials technology.

It gave no financial value for the deal but said nanomaterials, which are used to manufacture "paper quality" electronic information displays, is a market which could be worth billions of dollars in the coming decade.

The two companies also signed a deal to to commericalise nanomaterials for a range of applications, including displays, sensors, batteries and solar cells.
